Several pipe bombs were found Sunday morning near a hunting cabin northeast of Oklee.
The pipe bombs, which were inside a container, were hidden in a rubble pile in Equality Township, according to Red Lake County Sheriff Mitch Bernstein. The property owner reported the incident shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday.
Two members of the Crow Wing County Bomb Squad disabled the pipe bombs late Sunday afternoon. The property was searched for other explosives or dangerous items. Evidence was collected, and the property was deemed safe at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
It appeared that someone had placed the bombs there in an attempt to store and hide them, not detonate them.
The sheriff’s office is working with the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to investigate this case. The case remains under investigation.
If anyone has any information that may be helpful to this case, they are urged to call the sheriff’s office.
