    Detroit Lakes – Ina May Thorsgard, 90, of Detroit Lakes, formerly of Thief River Falls, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes with her loving family by her side.
    Memorial services for Ina May Thorsgard were held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
    Ina May Sundquist was born on October 10, 1927 on the J. P. Sundquist farm near Aneta, ND, the daughter of Arnold and Inga (Hovde) Sundquist
    She attended high school in Aneta and graduated from the Grand Forks Deaconess School of Nursing, earning an RN degree.
    On June 26, 1953, Ina May was united in marriage to Ernest Thorsgard. She worked at the Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, ND and then as Superintendent of Nursing at Northwood, ND. She and her husband, Dr. Ernest Thorsgard, dedicated a year to serve as medical missionaries in Papua New Guinea, where Ina helped conduct mom-baby wellness clinics.
    Ina May was active at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, a member of the Ladies Aid, Dorcas Circle, Steven Ministries and Bethel Series. She also belonged to Zehlians Womens Club. She loved to cook and feed people, taught many children to swim and skate, and loved watching figure skating at the Olympics.  
    Ina’s “expedition outfitters” is what we called her closet full of warm clothes that she kept for visitors that came over for skating or sleigh rides.  
    Ina May is survived by her children: Knute (Nancy) Thorsgard, Kyja Thorsgard (Dan Wold) and Eric (Gerri) Thorsgard; grandchildren: Marit (Kevin) Spaeth, Kai (Harmony) Thorsgard, Greta (Mox) Gunderson, Annelise (Casey) Nelson, Torin Thorsgard, Trageton Thorsgard, Haakan Thorsgard, Brekt Thorsgard, Erin Thorsgard, Aksel Thorsgard, Rava (aka Pixie) Thorsgard; great-grandchildren: Annika Spaeth, Henrik Spaeth, Knute Spaeth, Leif Thorsgard, Synneva Gunderson, Beau Gunderson, Anja Nelson and Klara Nelson; and sisters: Carol Manthei and Doris Johnson.
    Ina May is preceded in death by her husband Ernest on June 7, 2012; her parents; grandparents; and brothers: Carl Sundquist, John Sundquist and Arnold Sundquist.
