TRF sweeps Thunder Bay to finish first half 28-1

Thief River Falls wrapped up the first half of the 2017-18 season with a pair of wins at Thunder Bay Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16 to improve to an SIJHL and CJHL best 28-1-0-0. 
Thief River Falls opened the weekend slate with a dominant 5-2 win at Thunder Bay. The Norskies led  3-0 after two periods of play, with goals by Pete Grytdahl, Mitchell Soderberg and Jared Pedersen and assists by Boe Bjorge, Asian Akervik and Cameron Jones.
Thunder Bay briefly made a game of it with goals by Joe Newhouse and Dillon Ward early in the third period. 
The Norskies answered with an unassisted marker by Brett Piper with 3:19 left to play; and two minutes later Pedersen scored an unassisted short-handed goal to make it 5-2. 
On Saturday, the Norskies completed the two-game sweep with a 6-3 win behind two goals from Parker Simonson. 
Connor Bowey got the scoring going early for the Norskies, scoring a little over a minute into the action, with helpers by Soderberg and Michael Johnson. 
The North Stars tied things with a unassisted power play goal by Bradley Thrower with 12:12 left to play in the first. 
Four minutes later, the Norskies went back in front on Simonson's 26th goal of the season. 
The North Stars again tied the game with 13:07 left to play in the second period on a power play goal by Alex Maticic and assist by Ryan Mignault. 
Simonson once again put the Norskies back on top with an unassisted goal with 5:25 left to play in the second period. 
The Norskies broke the game open with two more goals in the second. Blair Lindholm scored his 10th marker of the season, with an assist to Logan Jackson; and Alec Daman scored his seventh goal of the year with the Norskies playing a man short with 1:35 left in the second. 
Thunder Bay cut the Norskie lead to 5-3 with 1:13 left to play on Thrower's second goal of the contest. 
With the clock working against them, the North Stars pulled goalie Dougie Newhouse with 52 seconds remaining. The Norskies capitalized, with Cody Aarvig scoring the empty netter with three seconds remaining.
