Thief River Falls – Knowing that I am about to pass away gives me a chance to write the ending to my own story, at least in this life anyway. I am starting a whole new chapter that I anticipate will be my greatest adventure ever. I have received a call about a new position, one that requires singing, dancing and joy beyond measure. Those close to me can attest to the fact that I have been practicing my singing and dancing skills in the privacy of my own home for quite some time. My new position is filled with reunions of friends and family that have already accepted the call. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse and the benefits are out of this world. I accepted this new position from my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 9th, 2017.
My name is Kathleen DeLaine (Erickson) Walters. I was born on January 24, 1951 in Hallock to Bert and Stella (Johnson) Erickson. I grew up on a farm in Northwest Minnesota and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1969. I also attended Vo-Tech in Thief River Falls and graduated from the Clerical Department in 1970.
I was united in marriage to William Walters on November 18, 1983 and we made our home in Wahpeton ND. I have taken different career paths in my life, most recently working for Hammer Realty.
In this life I had many trials, one being struggling with cancer for several years. Even though it may have bested me in this life I do not want to be remembered for my struggles. I choose instead to be remembered for the times of joy and laughter. I enjoyed traveling, reading, and using my imagination to create, craft, and decorate. I especially enjoyed planning parties. I am grateful for my family and my friends. I am grateful for my life. Please try to find the joy in your own life.  It is there. Some days you may just have to look a little harder to find it, but the Joy is there.
You may not see me for a while, but please remember the good times we shared and if you find yourself looking for me when you accept the same position I did, I went home to be with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I leave behind me in this life, but look forward to our reunion someday: my husband Bill Walters; two sons, Ryan and Josiah Walters, stepchildren Brenda Walters, Dawn O'Leary, Sheila (Keith) Hittner, Corey Walters; my grandsons Brendan and Aiden; step-grandchildren: Nicholas, Brandon, Cody, Erin, Mattigan, Keaton, Braeden, and CJ; my sister Clareen (Curtis) Nordling, my niece KaLynn (Charlie) Martin and nephew Mark (Jackie) Nordling, and many step-nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Valley Christian Church in Breckenridge, on December 29, 2017 at 10:30 am with visitation one half hour before service.
