    Thief River Falls – Duane Larson, 90, of Thief River Falls, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls.
    Memorial service to celebrate his life was held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. Inurnment will be at the Holt Cemetery in the spring.
    Duane Walter Larson was born on June 5, 1927 in Thief River Falls, the son of Walter and Myrtle (Anderson) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. Duane attended Holt School and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1945.
    On June 29, 1950, Duane was united in marriage to Joyce Yvonne Peterson at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. They made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union four children were born: Steven, David, Anita and Nancy.  
    In 1960, Duane purchased Falls Supply Company, which later became NAPA. He sold auto parts and supplies on the road in Northwestern Minnesota until his retirement in 1998, at the age of 71.
    Duane enjoyed fishing, cribbage, and horseshoes.  He was proud to have organized General Trading Company fishing trips for over 30 years, mostly based out of Rocky Point (Lake of the Woods) where he and Joyce owned and enjoyed a lake home for many years.  
    Duane’s cribbage playing was legendary with daily games at the Elks Club and also at home with Joyce each morning. He was an avid horseshoe enthusiast while on the road, at the lake, and at family gatherings. He was also a lifetime Elks Club member.
    Duane was a faithful husband, proud dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa and loved his family dearly.
    Duane is survived by his children: Steven (Linda) Larson of Excelsior, David Larson of Holt, Anita (Bruce) Johnson of Hudson, WI and Nancy (Mark) Hilleren of Centerville; 8 grandchildren: Tony (Sherry) Larson, Rob (Angie) Larson, Abby (Nick) Walker, Kristie (Reed) Korpi, Dan (Jaylene) Larson, Aaron (Courtney) Johnson, Adam Johnson, Shana (Steven) Kuehn; 13 great-grandchildren: Tim, Ben, and Sydney Johnson, Austin, Juliette, Ryder, Olivia and Henry Larson, Gage and Alivia Larson, Cameron, Eli, and Tristan Kuehn; brother, Harold Larson; sisters: Shirley Larson, Ione (Roger) Rolstad, and Marlene (Roger) Hoppel; his faithful canine companion, Daisy; and many other relatives and friends.
    Duane is preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce; his parents; brothers, Kenneth Larson and Merle Larson; sister, Ruth Larson; daughter-in-law, Julie Larson; great-grandchild, William Anthony Larson.
