    Thief River Falls – Ovedia Stratton, 92, of Thief River Falls, formerly of Grygla, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, with her loving family at her side.
    Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Interment followed at St. Olaf Cemetery, Grygla.      Ovedia M. (Anderson) Stratton was born at home on May 27, 1925 in Mavie, the daughter of Iver and Inga (Sletten) Anderson.  She attended country school and grew to adulthood in Mavie.
    On August 28, 1945, Ovedia was united in marriage to Chester Stratton Sr. To this union five children were born: Pauline, Betty Rose, Vivian, Chester Jr. “Sonny”, and Jane. The family made their home in Grygla.
    Ovedia worked very hard raising her children, gardening, and tending to the animals. As a young girl, she loved to ride her horse, Fritz. She also loved to sing, play guitar and accordion. She read her bible daily and enjoyed listening to church services on the radio on Sundays. Her family fondly remembers her as a wonderful cook, especially her hotdish, homemade bread and potato salad.
    Ovedia is survived by her loving children, Pauline (Wally) Sistad of Grygla, and Jane Hoy of Wannaska; 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; sister, Thelma Feragen of Thief River Falls; brother-in-law, Donald (Lois) Stratton of St. Paul; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Ovedia is preceded in death by her husband, Chester in 1990; son Chester Jr. “Sonny” in 2011; daughter, Vivian Sunsdahl in 2013; infant daughter, Betty Rose; sons-in-law, Floyd Sunsdahl and Leo Hoy; great-granddaughter, Clara Abigail Stratton; siblings, Delpha Comstock, Stella Nesland, Myrtle Helgeland, Melford Anderson, Alvin Anderson and LeRoy Anderson.
