Gerald “Gerry” Boyd Ulferts, 67, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Grundy Center, Iowa.
As per his wishes, Gerry’s ashes will be buried alongside his loving wife, as well as in a special place outdoors, scattered alongside his mother and father.
Gerald was born on June 30, 1951 to Ray and Helen Ulferts in Thief River Falls. Gerry graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls before going on to attend Northland Community College and the University of Minnesota.
For many years Gerry worked for LB Hartz of Thief River Falls as well as Norwesco Contract Manufacturing (NCM) of Grundy Center, Iowa, in the years before his retirement. It was while working at NCM that Gerry met Velma Sternhagen Olsen and they were married on October 7, 2003.
Gerry was loved and cared for by many wonderful neighbors, friends, as well as his children for whom he was most grateful. He was enthralled throughout his life by the great outdoors and frequently enjoyed hunting, hiking, and fishing.
At home Gerry was passionate about music, especially 60s, bluegrass, and jazz, as well as stamp collecting, comedy, curling, watching football, playing cards, backgammon, jokes and telling stories.
Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Helen Ulferts, and his beloved wife Velma Ulferts.
Gerry is survived by his son Cameron Ulferts, daughter Rebecca Ulferts, step-daughter Natalie LaCoursiere, brother Don (Ann) Ulferts, sister Shirley (Frank) Cody, many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, as well as former spouse/mother of his children, Mary Beich.
