John Gordon Stromberg, age 74, passed away on November 29, 2018 at his home in Thief River Falls.
Memorial Service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Thief River Falls on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. with Pastor Larry Myhrer officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Lunch and fellowship will follow in the funeral home dining area.
John was born on October 1, 1944 in Thief River Falls. He attended school in his hometown and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962. John attended Bemidji State University from 1962 to 1963. He entered the Army in 1963 and served in the US Army Transportation Corp. until 1966. Following his military service, he was employed by Soo Line Rail Road (Canadian Pacific) until his retirement in 2004.
On April 6, 1968 John was united in marriage to Barbara Beggs at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls.
John enjoyed traveling, history, riding motorcycles, cars, spending time at the family hunting property in Fourtown, working in his yard, telling jokes, and he had a love for animals, especially his cat Black Jack. John was a member of the Eagles and American Legion.
John is survived by his son, Eric (Cathy) Stromberg of Eagan, daughter, Rachel (Eric) Thorson of Philadelphia, PA, their mother, Barbara Stromberg of Thief River Falls, brother, Dana (Betty) Stromberg of Peoria, AZ. Grandchildren, Addie and Elly Stromberg, Gavin and Gabrielle Thorson. Nephews, Layne Stromberg and Tyler (Stefanie) Stromberg.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Frances Stromberg, and Jack Granum.
