Arnold “Arne” Schjeldrup, 71, of Felton, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 at his home.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, November 9, at Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus, in Fargo, ND.
Arne was born April 19, 1948 in Thief River Falls to Ben and Judy (Hagen) Schjeldrup. He graduated from Plummer High School in 1966 before attending NDSU, where while a member of Sigma Phi Delta, he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with an Aeronautic option in 1970.
Arne married Genora Lindblom on April 25, 1970 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead. They moved to Peoria, IL where Arne worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company as Senior Research and Design Engineer. In 1978, they moved back to Felton to farm Genora’s family farm.
Arne was an avid pilot and was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). He was a volunteer pilot for Life Flight, Angel Flight, and Air LifeLine. After retirement in 2008, Arne and Genora balanced their time between missionary work and world travel with an emphasis on Biblical Archaeology.
Arne was a philanthropist and true humanitarian. He was dedicated to family including some described as, “not blood, but so loved.”
Part of his extended family was Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo. Arne was a leader with “Mission Jamaica.” He was also an active part of Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity, and performed missionary work in Central African Republic.
Arne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Genora of Felton; children: Cale (Annessa) Schjeldrup of Fargo, ND, and Amy Leigh Schjeldrup of Minneapolis; granddaughter, Cereanna Schjeldrup of Fargo, ND; sister, Mary (Terry) Bottem of Woodland, CA; nephew, Tony Bottem of Woodland, CA.
Arne was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Judy.
