Freda Hemmesch, 86, of Thief River Falls passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
The funeral to celebrate Freda’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Visitation will be from Noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Freda Alice Habedank was born September 10, 1933 at Mavie, the daughter of Charlie and Alice (Hruby) Habedank. She was baptized on November 5, 1945 into the Christian faith. She attended Goodridge School, graduating with the class of 1951.
On September 22, 1951, Freda was united in marriage to Lawrence Hemmesch in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union five children were born: Mary, Mike, Mark, Milo and Mitch.
Freda enjoyed her time at home while her children were growing and in the mid-1960’s she went to work at Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls. Freda worked her way to Data Entry Supervisor and retired in 1996. She loved her career at the hospital and made many friends along the way.
Freda enjoyed fishing many hours in the Upper Red Lake, camping, bowling, embroidery, crocheting, cooking, gardening, going for a spin in the country, keeping a spotless home and loved being with her family. In her early years, Freda played softball for the Mudhens.
Freda was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include Freda’s loving children: Mary (John) Cornille of St. Louis, MO, Michael (Gwen) Hemmesch of Fredericksburg, VA, Mark Hemmesch of Thief River Falls, and Mitchell (Connie) Hemmesch of Thief River Falls; grandchildren: Alisa (Brandon) Wand, Becky (Jeff) Bendick, Sarah (John) Mills, Alice (Derek) Martin, Emily (Ali) Brissette, Amanda Bottom, Marissa Hemmesch, Brock Hemmesch and Jessica (Michael) Andersen; great-grandchildren: Autumn Wand, Avalyn Bendick, September Mills, Matthew Cash Mills, Kaeden Hemmesch-Brissette, Brooklyn Brissette, Mariah Kenfield, Mikale Kenfield and Jordan Andersen; sister, Arvilla Hastad; brother, Gary Habedank; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Habedank and Judy Habedank and many other relatives and friends.
Freda is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; parents; grandparents; son, Milo Hemmesch in 2007, and grandson, Matthew Hemmesch; siblings: Kenneth Habedank, Viola (Lester) Anderson, Dorothy (Arthur) McLaughlin, Pearl (Laverne) Adamson, Goldie (Dennis) Jones, Phyllis Wilhelm, Claudia (Harry) Cole and Clifford Habedank; brother-in-law, Henry Hastad, and sister-in-law, Sharon Habedank.
