Carol H. Borchert, 79

Carol Helen Borchert, 79, resident of Balm Lake, passed away in Bemidji on February 8, 2020, after a courageous, but short, battle with cancer.
A celebration of life service will begin at 11 a.m. on February 14, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Debs. A visitation will begin one hour before the service, with lunch to be served at the church after the service.
Carol was born on April 6, 1940 in Red Lake Falls to Carl and Helena Lehrer. She grew up on a farm outside of Red Lake Falls and attended Lafayette High School. After high school, Carol attended and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in home economics from Concordia College in Moorhead.
After graduating from college, Carol initially taught home economics. She later went to work for Quin County Health Services.
Carol married Jay Borchert on June 29, 1962. Together, Carol and Jay lived in Thief River Falls, Warroad, Wannaska and Debs. They spent their last twenty years together living on the beautiful shores of Balm Lake. They often spent their winters in New Brunfels, TX.
Carol was a member of 4-H, Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher, Girl Scout leader and active member of the Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church of Debs.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Helena Lehrer. She is survived by her husband Jay; two children: Gayle Borchert (Jon Morphew) of Monticello, and Paul Borchert (Sarah) of Baxter; her brothers and sister: Wayne Lehrer (Lois), Sharon Wuggazer (Bob), Joel Lehrer (Sue) and Terry Lehrer (Wendy); sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judi and Lee Borchert; grandchildren: Ava, Elsa and Willa Borchert; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Carol loved spending time with her family, fishing for walleyes on Balm Lake and Red Lake, gardening, tending to her chickens and spending countless hours volunteering for many church activities over the years.
