Art Hinrichs, 84, of Thief River Falls passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 01, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, with his loving family at his side.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. John Golv and Rev. Ale Tulu officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Military Honors will be provided by the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 and Minnesota Navy Honors Team.
Arthur Albert Hinrichs, son of Ernest and Mabel (Hanson) Hinrichs, was born December 29, 1935 in River Township, Red Lake County. He was the oldest of 11 children. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls, and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls. Art attended school in St. Hilaire, and Lafayette High School in Red lake Falls.
Art entered the United States Navy on May 23, 1953 and was honorably discharged as Chief Electrician on January 31, 1972.
On November 20, 1955 Art married Norma Fickenworth in Erie, PA. To this union four children were born: Kim, Terry, Art and Rod. After retiring from military duty, Art moved his family from San Diego, CA to Thief River Falls. In 1973, he opened his own business, Hinrichs Electric, which he operated until retiring on January 1, 1998.
Art married Darlene Peterson October 29, 1992 and they continued to live in Thief River Falls. Together they enjoyed camping throughout the state of Minnesota, spending time together with friends and family, and they especially enjoyed time with the grandkids.
Art was a member of the American Legion Club, the ARRL Amateur Radio, the Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Navy Fleet Reserve Association and Zion Lutheran Church.
Art enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, flying, canoeing, and being an avid Ham Radio enthusiast and attending Ham Fests with his buddies, especially Ray Swick.
Art is survived by children: Kim (John) Crowley, Grand Forks, ND, Terry (Barb) Hinrichs, Harvey, ND, Art L. Hinrichs, Grand Forks, ND and Rod (Lisa) Hinrichs, Jon (Julie) Peterson and Brian (Kim) Peterson, all of Thief River Falls; grandchildren: John Crowley IV, Kasey Crowley, Andrea (Jon) Petersen, Adam (Sara) Hinrichs, Ashley (Kyle) Kettering, Joe (Heather) Lofquist, Nathan, Jenna and Lydia Hinrichs, Lisa (Josh) Loland, Maggie (Patrick) Lee and Lee Peterson; great-grandchildren: Gavin, Grady, Garrett, Greta, Conner, Harper, Jaxon, Maddie and Parker; brothers: Roger (Pam) Hinrichs, Red Lake Falls and Stevie (Bev) Hinrichs, Angora; sisters: Margaret (Charles) Langevin of Corcoran, Lorraine Wheeler, Staples, Judy (Dale) Derosier, Brainerd and Sandy (Dale) Heleson, Northfield; brother-in-law, Ray Nelson, Rock, MI; sisters-in-law: Barbara Hinrichs of Sturtevant, WI and Beverly Hinrichs of Little Falls; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Art was preceded in death by his wives: Norma on August 7, 1976 and Darlene on September 28, 2019; brothers: Orland, Ernest and Jerry; sister, Patsy Nelson and his parents.
