The funeral services will be held following all of the CDC and State of MN Covid guidelines on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 1 p.m. at New Hope Church in Newfolden, with Reverend Ollie Urdahl officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden.
Floyd Lars Nelson was born May 1, 1928 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Lars and Elizabeth (McDonald) Nelson. He was baptized in North Dakota and attended Brenna Township School. At the age of 12 the family moved to Newfolden and Floyd was confirmed in Newfolden. He worked for area farmers as a young man.
Floyd was united in marriage to Adeline Corrine Skyberg on December 9, 1949. The couple made their home on a farm in Newfolden Township, south of Newfolden for many years. Floyd purchased the farm in the early 1950’s and raised cattle, sheep and milk cows and truly enjoyed baling hay, which he continued until he was 89. He also worked at the Newfolden Locker Plant, Land O’ Lakes Turkey Plant for 13 years and was a carpenter apprentice with his son LeRoy, for 10 years. Floyd was a hardworking man all of his life.
Floyd was a charter member and also a board member of New Hope Church. He enjoyed carpentry, bird feeding and having coffee at the Co-op with his friends. He loved visiting people, giving and receiving hugs. He loved playing horseshoe and playing Uno, and was very proud of his wood pile. He made lefse and Klub with his family. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary December 9, 2019.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Adeline Nelson; 5 children: James (Lana) Nelson of Thief River Falls, John (Susan) Nelson of Newfolden, daughter-in-law, Mackie Cadlo (LeRoy – deceased) of Moorcraft, WY, Joy (Randy who passed away in September 2019) Knutson of Newfolden, Randy (Lorrie) Nelson of Newfolden and Gloria (Marc) Osowski of Bemidji; grandchildren: Troy, Misty, Kimberly, Angela (Chris) Mills, Wendy, Darlene (Rich) Riewer, Teresa (Jonathan) Hopke, Amy (Milt) Green, Ashley (Aaron) Kendrick, LeRoy Jr. (Haley), Travas Knutson, Tony Knutson, Tyler (Rhandi) Knutson, Kassi (Craig) Redford, Brandon (Ashley), Kristina Lambert, Kristen (Brandon) Nelson, Bryant (Pascale), Jessica (Jeff) Kemp, Jacob (Katie) Anderson and Jordon (Jesse) Anderson; step-grandchildren: Chad (Chas) Swanson, Carissa Mcdougall, Nicholas Swanson and Joni (Andy) Ryan; 48 great grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren; brother, Milt (Janice) Nelson of Grand Forks, ND; sister, Shirley (John) Johnson of Kenosha, WI; sister–in-law, Rose (Marvin) Nelson; brothers-in-law, Donny Skyberg and Curtis Thompson; several nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by daughter, Darlene, October 10, 1956, son, LeRoy, August 27, 2019 and son-in-law, Randy Knutson September 30, 2019; two grandchildren, Tabitha Nelson and Justin Anderson; three great-grandchildren: Heidi Anenson, Kael Knutson and Mason Knutson; his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Anderson and Sally Fugelburg; and three brothers: Harry, Martin and Clarence.
