Linda Mae Geske passed away on May 5, 2020 at the age of 73.
A private family funeral service will be May 13, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church, 101 Pine Ave., Thief River Falls. Public visitation, per CDC recommendations 10 people at a time, will be from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with the private family funeral at 12 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Puffe officiating. The family will gather at the Riverside Cemetery for the Committal service in rural St. Hilaire following the service.
Linda was born October 15, 1946 in Crookston. She was the daughter of Leonard and Opal (Opgrand) Bursheim. She was raised on the family farm in Polk County, south of Winger. She attended Winger Elementary School and McIntosh High School. She graduated in 1964. Linda then attended Area Vocational Technical School in Thief River Falls graduating with an associates degree in 1966.
Linda was married to Arnold Geske on June 17, 1967 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh. She worked for Northwestern Hospital, Arctic Cat, Oakland Park, Northern Pride, and DigiKey. She also held other positions over the years. She retired from DigiKey in 2011.
Linda was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger. She was long-time member at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. She had also been a member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Radium, and for a few years at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls. In all of the congregations, she was very supportive of Arnold’s various roles. She very much enjoyed their participation with the Orphan Grain Train, Lutheran Laymen’s League and Lutheran Hour Ministries. She was a secretary for the Minnesota North Lutheran Laymen’s League.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband Arnold in 2016; her parents; stepfather, Albert Bjella; grandparents; her daughter-in-law, Laura Geske; grandchildren, Joshua and Joy Geske; brother, Lynn Bursheim; and sister, Lucille Dokken.
Linda is survived by her children: John and Melanie Geske of Becker; Michael Geske of Thief River Falls; Rev. Jeffrey Geske of Ottawa Lake, MI; grandchildren: Cory Geske, Jordan (Stephanie) Carr, Noah (Lyric) Moody, Ashley Geske, Bethany Geske, Kurtis Geske and Jacob Geske; great-grandchildren: Jason Geske, Conner and Clayton Rudi, Sklyer Carr, Leland Carr, Avery and Audree Moody and Blake Chervestad; sisters: Leone Bursheim of McIntosh and Robin Salveson of Winger; brother, Lyndon Bursheim of Crookston; and several nieces and nephews.
Linda very much loved her sons and her grandchildren. Linda enjoyed crossword puzzles, times at the casino, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, Lutheran Hour Ministries, or the Orphan Grain Train.
