Greg Roger Kilen, 59, of Warren, passed away due to a heart attack while on the job, on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, in Euclid.
A private service was held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. It was recorded and available for viewing on Tuesday afternoon. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.
Greg was born on January 13, 1961, in Greenbush, to Alfred Roger and Sharon “Dowie” (Olberg) Kilen. He was raised on the family farm in rural Middle River. He graduated from Middle River High School, always a proud Skipper, in 1979. Following graduation, Greg completed his education at NCTC in Thief River Falls, specializing in welding in 1980. He became a NCTC Welding Instructor upon graduation.
In 1982, Greg branched into entrepreneurship, owning a farm raising small grains and dairy cattle.
In November of 1999, Greg crossed paths with the future love of his life. As their relationship progressed, Greg knew it was time to make his life forever with Carol (Wittman-McGregor). Their nuptuals were celebrated on July 29, 2000 at First Lutheran Church, Thief Lake.
To those who loved him, Greg was known as a hard worker and a genuine man – he’d give anyone in need the shirt off his back. Whatever he happened to be doing, he’d always give 110%. Greg’s life was fulfilled when he earned the role of “dad” in 2000. He adored his family and children with boundless
love. His proudest moments were on the sideline, watching his children participate in sporting events.
Greg invested his whole heart into his four children and he shared each of their interests fervently. His children especially appreciated all the times they spent in the woods or driving around the country. Greg’s feet always were rooted in his home town of Middle River, which is often where their excursions led them. He led his children by example, instilling into them his hard work ethics.
Over the years, Greg, an independent truck driver by trade, also co-owned Wayne’s Lawn Services, was employed by Transystems, CHS, and Northdale Oil and most recently back with CHS. His efforts were all for his family; his greatest pleasure was to endulge them in family vacations – always traveling to warmer climates.
Greg, the husband, father, uncle, brother and friend, will be enormously missed. His beloved family and friends will fondly remember his back-breaking hugs. Greg was a devoted follower of the Lord and treasured his best friends, David (Karleen) Thompson and Darrel (Melanie) Nelson.
Greg is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Carol; four children: DJ and Canda McGregor, Jesse and Kirby Kilen; brothers: Bruce, Doug (Edie) and Bradley Kilen; siblings-in-law: Laurel Jr. (Sonja), Sharon, Sheryl (Ron), Larry, Jon (Inna) and Pamela (Jason); and many nieces, nephews and friends. All who had the privilege of knowing Greg, loved him.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Sharon Kilen; and in-laws, Laurel and Beverly Wittman.
