Clarice A. Galliher of Thief River Falls went to her Lord peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls.
A private family graveside interment will be held in Guthrie on June 9, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.
Clarice Aurelia Galliher was born on June 28, 1922 at the home of her parents, Luella Anna (Leitch) Andrews and Clarence Ray Andrews in Hart Lake Township, Hubbard County, near Guthrie. She graduated from Bemidji High School in 1938 as Class Valedictorian at age 16. Clarice graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1942 and obtained her Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education from Bemidji State University in 1968.
Clarice taught at Baudette for one year before she married Ralph Galliher. Clarice continued to teach at Laporte and at Guthrie for 5 years. During this time, they farmed at Guthrie and continued to do so for 25 years. In 1968 they moved to Thief River Falls, where Clarice was teaching. Following retirement, she continued to live there until the time of her death.
Clarice was an avid reader, a world traveler and a Minnesota Twins fan. She enjoyed many needlecraft hobbies, had a passion for photography and loved her flowers and gardening. She wrote short stories, poetry and song lyrics. She was a devout Christian with extensive knowledge of the Bible and its history.
Clarice’s organization memberships included: United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, MENSA, MEA, Northwest Medical Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Nutrition Council board member at the Heritage Community Center, as well as other local and professional organizations throughout the years. Life memberships: National Education Association (NEA), National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and Retired Educators Association of Minnesota (REAM).
Clarice was honored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in 1989 as one of the Women of Honor for that year. She was a member of the Heritage Community Center of TRF and was selected as one of the two Pennington County’s Senior Citizens in 2002. Clarice logged over 4,000 hours as a hospital Volunteer and was the Editor of the Minnesota newsletter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for 14 years.
Clarice is survived by four children, sons: William Galliher of Barnesville and Andrew Galliher (Andrea) of Boscawen, NH; daughters: Rosemary (Mary) Voecks (Loren) of Thief River Falls, and Rosanne (Ann) Nelson (Leland) of Goodridge; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Clarice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; granddaughter, Kelly Ann Galliher; sister, Florence Andrews Stone; brother-in-law, Joseph Stone; niece, Theresa Stone Losh; nine sisters-in-law and their husbands.
Clarice requested that memorials be given to the United Methodist Church, Heritage Community Center, Pennington County Humane Society or the Northland Community College Foundation.
