Janet (Ashland) Fessler, 76, of Newburgh, IN, formerly of Thief River Falls, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 1, 2020 at her home.
There will be no services at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa on Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m.
Janet Darlene Ashland was born December 27, 1943 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa to the late Dean and Eleanor (Heggen) Ashland. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Janet graduated in 1962 from Northwood-Kensett High School in Northwood, Iowa.
On August 5, 1967 Janet “Jan” was united in marriage to Jerry Fessler at Zion Lutheran Church in Northwood. In 1974, Jan and Jerry moved to Thief River Falls, where they owned and operated a Pizza Hut franchise while raising their daughter. Jan was a very active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church and an avid volunteer in the community. She loved traveling and spending time in their winter home in Mesa, Arizona.
Jan moved to Newburgh to be closer to her family after Jerry’s passing and so enjoyed all the time spent with her two granddaughters and all their activities. She was a member of Newburgh United Methodist Church and looked forward to her outings with her friends through the Christian Fellowship Church group. Jan had a very generous heart and never met a stranger. Most of all, Jan was a loving Mom and devoted Grandma.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Jana (Rob) Ulrey; grandchildren: Kylie Rae Ulrey and Kyra Rae Ulrey; brother, Marlyn Dean Ashland; and her aunt, Beverly Gates; cousins and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Dean Fessler.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Warrick County Humane Society, 5722 S. Vann Rd., Newburgh, IN 47630.
