Joe Forberg, of Thief River Falls, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
A private memorial service and committal will be held at the Camp Ripley military cemetery near Little Falls.
Joseph Arlon Forberg, the son of Joseph Benjamin Forberg and Alice (Pladsen) Forberg was born at Cooperstown, ND on October 3, 1928. He spent his early years on a farm in Lenora Township in Griggs County and attended rural school near their farm. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Ottawa Lutheran Church near his farm home.
Joeseph attended high school in Sharon graduating in 1945, and the University of ND graduating in 1951 with a major in mathematics and a commission as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in the Army Reserve. He was ordered to active duty on September 1951 and spent a year stateside followed by a year in Korea, during which he was an Infantry Platoon Leader with the Second Infantry Division. In April 1954 he joined the Minnesota Army National Guard and continued that membership until retiring in May 1984.
On December 27, 1950 Joe was united in marriage to Eleanore Burnette Klabo at Sharon, ND. In September of 1953 he was employed as a mathematics teacher at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and continued in that position until retiring in 1986. Following retirement Joe and Eleanore visited numerous foreign ports traveling by cruise ships, visited friends and relatives and enjoyed the four seasons of Northern Minnesota.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Eleanore, of Thief River Falls; daughter, Kathy (Clifford) Michaelis of Shakopee, and their children Sarah Elizabeth (Eric), their son Oscar; Patrick John (Montana) and Scott Joseph (Kate); a son Robert (Katherine) of New Prague, and their children: Emily Ann, Daniel Eric, Joseph David, William Thomas; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Daniel Paul.
