Curtis Johnson, 78, of Thief River Falls passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at his residence.
The funeral service to celebrate Curtis’ life was held on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Curtis Walter Johnson was born January 1, 1942 in Thief River Falls, the son of Walter and Cora (Krause) Johnson. He was baptized at Highlanding Lutheran Church and confirmed at Telemarken Lutheran Church in rural Goodridge. He grew up on the family farm near Highlanding and attended school in Goodridge, graduating with the class of 1959. Curtis furthered his education at the AVTI in Thief River Falls in the Welding Program.
Curtis worked for various jobs and farmers in Minneapolis and East Grand Forks before going to work as a welder at Forsbergs in Thief River Falls. He was an excellent welder and faithful employee for 42 years.
During this time he met his future wife, Carol Jeanette and the couple were married on August 6, 1961 in Thief River Falls. Carol and Curt made their home together on the family farm north of Thief River Falls where they raised three children.
Curtis was a member of the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls. He enjoyed hunting at the deer shack and fishing at Union Lake, where they had a camper for many years. He enjoyed traveling to different casinos and playing cards, sitting around the campfire with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include Curtis’ three children: Mark (Laureen) of Erskine, Sheryl of Thief River Falls and Jeff (Leslie) of Minneapolis; grandchildren: Kayla (Jason), Alyssa, Hailey (fiancé Kevin), Logan and Cole; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Garrett; sister, Rosemary Naeseth; and many other relatives and friends.
Curits is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol on July 27, 2012, and his parents.
