Violet S. Weigel, 96

Violet Weigel, 96, of New Ulm, formerly of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, with her loving family by her side.
The funeral service to celebrate Violet’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Thomas Puffe officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Friday, September 18, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church.
Violet Sylvia Nelson was born May 27, 1924 on a farm near Goodridge, to the late Oscar and Annie (Lubitz) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith – Missouri Synod. Violet attended grade school in Germantown, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. After graduation she moved to Seattle, WA where she worked at the Flying Fortress (B-17) and Super Fortress (B-29) School as a secretary.
Violet was united in marriage to Alfred “Bernie” Weigel on September 18, 1944 in Seattle, WA. To this marriage four children were born: Judith, Darryl, Gene and Donovan. The Weigel’s farmed north of Mavie, Marshall County for 18 years and then moved to Thief River Falls. She was active in her husband’s business, Bernie’s Auto Sales as a bookkeeper and transporting cars.
Violet was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church and belonged to the Hannah Circle for many years. She was a Christian under construction.
Upon retirement Violet and Bernie enjoyed many years of traveling, visiting most of the 48 states. She always enjoyed reminiscing of these travels. They both had a love of dancing. Violet also enjoyed rhyming words and sending her poems to friends and relatives for birthdays and anniversaries.
Violet moved to New Ulm, in July 2012 after the death of her husband, making this her home since.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Judith (Arnold) Lane of Augusta, WI; sons: Darryl (Penny) Weigel of New Ulm, Alfred “Gene” Weigel of Collinsville, VA and Donovan Weigel of Oregon, IL; grandchildren: Allen (Jamie) Lane, Jeffrey (Erica) Lane, Darrin Weigel, Jason (Heather) Weigel, Jamie Weigel, Ryan Weigel, Mandy (Chad) Horsley, Cory (fiancé Michelle) Weigel and Stacey (fiancé Robert) Weigel; also many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 64 ½ years, Alfred “Bernie” Weigel; parents, Oscar and Annie Nelson; brothers: Alfred (Betty) Nelson, Curdis (Ida) Nelson and Elmer “Bud” (Helen) Nelson; sisters: Gladys (Harold) Jorstad, Isabella (Jerry) Latta, Helen (Clifford “Kife”) Olson, Fern (Kenton) Liden, Alice (Stanley) Hruby and Lillian (Ralph) Klockman; and one grandson; nephews: Douglas Nelson, Donald Jorstad, Robert Jorstad, Ralph (Diane) Jorstad and Gary Lofgren; and step-great granddaughter, Alexandra Ellingson.
This is the final chapter in the lives of Oscar and Annie Nelson. May memories of us be good.
