Lora M. Nyland, 86, of Thief River Falls passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
The service to celebrate Lora’s life will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Lora May Hanson was born May 28, 1934, the daughter of Andrew and Hazel (Kolstrand) Hanson. She attended school through the 8th grade. She moved into Thief River Falls at an early age and went to work at the Corner Drug Store. Later, Lora moved to Cincinnati, OH with a friend where they worked in a factory.
On November 12, 1955, Lora was united in marriage to Roger Nyland in Thief River Falls where they raised their family of five, including: Roberta, Michael, James, Kathryn and Timothy.
When the kids were young, Lora worked at Parkin’s Corner Drug and waitressed at Lon’s Restaurant. She later went to work at Sears and was the Service Manager for many years. With her aging parents, Lora sold her home in Thief River Falls and moved to her parent’s farm, where she was able to better care for them. She also enjoyed her job at the VFW Post selling pull tabs.
Lora loved flowers, gardening, crocheting, reading, painting, drawing, playing Scrabble, working jig saw puzzles, and especially enjoyed visiting with her family and friends over a cup of coffee. She could be described as a very creative, loving, humble, stoic, strong and grateful woman.
Lora is survived by children: Bobbi Nyland of Hibbing, Mike (Shelley) Nyland of Goodridge, Jim (Miriam) Nyland of Jamestown, ND and Kathy (Bill) Rentz of Clearbrook; grandchildren: Tauscha Nyland, Kia (Jason) Naeseth, Jenny (Pete) Mooney, Anthony (Kendra) Nelson, Sam Nelson, Andrew Nyland, Hannah Nyland and Daniel Nyland; great-grandchildren: Makaya, Kiana, Davin, Shayla and DeLainey; step-great-grandchildren: Aziah, Kaden and Riley; great-great-grandson, Joziah; sister, Fern Groven; sister-in-law, Betty (Milo) Sandeen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Lora is preceded in death by husband, Roger in 1986; son, Tim Nyland in 2020; parents; sisters, Verna (Dick) Lott and Arlene (Lloyd) Tanem; brothers, Forrest Hanson and Robert Hanson.
