Rick L. Ostby, 45

St. Louis Park – Rick Lee Ostby, 45, of St. Louis Park, passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest in his home on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021.
Rick grew up in Thief River Falls. He was the son of Ron and Ruth (DuPree) Ostby. He attended Lincoln High School, graduated in 1993. He attended Bemidji State Univ. graduating with a Special Ed. Degree. He continued his education at St. Cloud State with a Masters in Special Ed. and then an Administrative degree.
Rick loved teaching, ending up at his dream job at Columbia Academy in Columbia Heights. He was Assistant Principal for the past 11 years.
Rick met the love of his life, Ann (Lilla) and united in marriage May 24, 2008. In this union, they had three children, Nicholas, Alexander and Juliet. He lived for his family and cherished every moment together.
Rick was a wonderful husband, father, son and brother. He had a big heart and an infectious laugh. He ws a stellar role model for his children and students. He was kind and generous and a great friend. He played and coached baseball, hockey and football. In addition, he was an avid fan of Gopher Athletics, “Row the boat”!
Rick is survived by loving Wife, Ann; children Nicholas, Alexander and Juliet; parents Ron and Ruth Ostby; sister Lisa (Michael) Heuer; nieces Ella and Lucy; mother-in-law Amy Lilla and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, James Lilla; paternal grandparents Henry and Rosella Ostby; Maternal grandparents Harold and Mary DuPree.
Due to the Covid 19, a private family only service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 5. The service will be video streamed on this link: washburnmcreavy.com/ obituaries/Rick-Ostby/ A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Washburn-Mcreavy Edina Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
