Grygla – RJ Taggart, Grygla, formerly of Thief River Falls, age 71, passed away on Wednesday March 3, 2021 at his residence in Grygla.
Ross Johnny (RJ) Taggart was born on September 5, 1949 in Thief River Falls, the son of Thomas “Russ” and Frieda (Stolt) Taggart. He grew up in The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. He attended Lincoln High School and received his GED.
In February of 1968 RJ enlisted in the United States Army while living in Wursburg, Germany. His love for driving an 18-wheeler continued in the service as a Truck driver hauling fuel. While in the service RJ received several medals of honor, 2 overseas Bars, Sharpshooter awards, and was honorably discharged December 6, 1974.
RJ has over 5 million miles logged over several different states and Canada. He drove belly dump trucks hauling gravel, potatoes, and his last job was with Foltz. His 40 years of trucking gave him little time at home, 1 or 2 days a week.
He loved antiques, old vehicles, and riding motorcycle. Many motorcycle trips on RJ’s 750 Shadow were to salvage yards to “look” at old cars or trucks.
He was a member of the Roseau VFW and the DAV (Disabled American Vet).
RJ is survived by his brother, Rodney (Linda) Taggart of Thief River Falls and Robert (Jennifer) Hilligoss, Elk River, Ester (Donald) Mack, Warroad, Candie Hilligoss, Red Lake Falls, Lee (Bob) Leier, Hillsdale, MI, Sue (Lenny) Lenhart, Washington, PA; nephews, Mike (Kelly) Taggart, Thief River Falls, Jerry Taggart, Fargo, ND and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Marla Jean.
