Goodridge – Karen Hruby, of Goodridge, passed away at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the age of 65.
Karen Kay Walseth was born May 21, 1955, daughter of Harold and Gladys (Skallet) Walseth in Thief River Falls. She was baptized at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire and confirmed at Silverton Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls. She attended Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and graduated with the class of 1973.
On August 18, 1974 she was united in marriage to Roger Hruby in Thief River Falls. To this union four children were born: Rhoda, Amanda, Joseph and Loretta. Karen did daycare, was in insurance sales and retired from Thief River Falls Radio.
Karen and Roger enjoyed spending time at Upper Red Lake and sharing their special place. Karen had a passion for creating custom treasures with Roger for Hruby’s Rustics, gardening and flowers, singing and playing guitar for her grandchildren. She loved cooking and passed on the family tradition of making lefse and grandma Walseth’s brown bread. Most of all she loved and cherished spending time with family and friends.
Karen is survived by her husband of 46 years, Roger of Goodridge; children, Rhoda (Dan Kotaska) Halvorson of Thief River Falls, Amanda (Chad) Griffin of Battle Lake, Joseph (Lacey) Hruby of Goodridge, and Loretta (Dustin) Buse of Red Lake Falls; grandchildren, Mataya (Fabian) Tunberg, Ethan Halvorson, Wyatt Halvorson, Gavin Griffin, Joslyn Griffin, Ellie Hruby, Ryker Hruby, Irving Buse and Beckett Buse; great-grandchildren, Grace Tunberg and Bethany Tunberg. She is also survived by siblings, Marie (George) Owens, Roy (Barb) Walseth, Al (Eileen) Walseth, Ed (Mary) Walseth, Wally (Mary) Walseth, Lyle (Arlene) Walseth, Scott Walseth and Chickie (Gary) Peterson; along with many nieces and nephews.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Gladys Walseth; sister, Jane O’Gorman; brothers, Lee Walseth and Vernon Walseth; and close friend, Joan Hruby.
A memorial service to honor Karen’s life was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating.
A Visitation took place from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge. Visitation was also held one hour prior to the memorial service on Monday at the church.
