Thief River Falls – Marland Joseph Kloety, 89, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at his residence in Thief River Falls.
On October 8, 1931 Marland was born in Ada, to Emil and Agnes (Johnson) Kloety. He was baptized in Ada, and later confirmed his faith in Warren. Marland attended and graduated from Ada High School with the class of 1949. He moved to Ortonville in February of 1952 to work at the local Chevrolet dealership.
Marland was united in marriage to Carol Knutson in Slayton on July 19, 1956. To this union, two daughters were born: Mary and Karen. They moved to Warren in February of 1957 to operate Northwest Motors. In 1962 they moved to Thief River Falls to work for Northern Motors, where he managed the Service Department. In July of 1965 Carol passed away.
Marland was united in marriage to Roberta Pederson in Thief River Falls on July 16, 1966. To this union, three sons were born: Mike, Dave, and Steve. Marland continued to work for Northern Motors until he retired in 1993. For 31 years he cared for his customers’ needs meticulously and efficiently.
Marland was a long-time committee member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and a strong supporter of Hides for Habitat. His other interests included hunting, bowling, fishing, sno-catting, carpentry projects, and jigsaw puzzles. He was a long-time Minnesota sports fan. He enjoyed watching and encouraging his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sporting activities.
Marland is survived by his wife, Roberta, Thief River Falls; children, Mary (Joe) Dahl, Thief Rivers Falls, Karen (Craig) O’Hearn, Owatonna, Mike (Tracy), Thief River Falls, Dave (friend, Donna Gumeringer), Bemidji, and Steve (Marci), Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Eric, Wendy, and Christopher Dahl, Ryan (Ashley) O’Hearn and Kylee (Mike) Meyer, Rachel and Derek Kloety, Jordan, Austin, and Haley Kloety; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Morghan Bugge, Rylan Dahl, Maia O’Hearn, Logann and Camden Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol; parents, Emil and Agnes Kloety; sisters, Donna Kloety and Raima Palmberg.
Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Chapel, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Chapel, Thief River Falls.
Private Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
