
Larry was born August 13, 1942 in Thief River Falls, to Conrad and Corrine (Thompson) Haugen. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1960. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1960-1963. He lived in California for a short time following his discharge and moved back to Thief River Falls, and spent time in Trinidad before moving back to Minneapolis.
He worked at Singer Corporation as the Store Manager and moved back to Thief River Falls, where he worked for Old Peoria Wine and Spirits before opening The Club (Billiards Poolhall) in Thief River Falls, where he also operated the Catering Plus business as well.
He married Marie Hvidsten on April 18, 1986 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. They made their home in Thief River Falls before moving to Moorhead in 2002.
Spending time with his family, children and grandchildren was his favorite thing. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, was an avid wine connoisseur, and enjoyed reading, playing cards, writing, where he was a published author. He also liked to be in the outdoors. He was a talented chef and enjoyed cooking for all of his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marie of Dilworth; children, Teri (Carl) Olsefsky of California, Tara (Thomas) Anderson of Prior Lake, Trevor (Sarah) Haugen of West Fargo, ND, Chris (fiancé Steph Haan) Roadfeldt of Plymouth, Alicia Roadfeldt of Moorhead; 12 grandchildren, Tory Bang, Tamara (Nick) Price, Tina Abbene, Tristan Abbene, Carisa (Austen) Browne, Vinny Anderson, Kyler Haugen, Alex Haugen, Ethan Roadfeldt, Carter Roadfeldt, Andrew Haan, Megan Haan; 6 great-grandchildren; and brother, Glen (Ann) Haugen of Thief River Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; brothers, Ronnie Haugen, Dick Haugen and Dennis “Bucky” Haugen.
A Celebration of Larry’s Life was held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo.
Interment: Fargo National Cemetery.
