Thief River Falls – Sharon “Sherry” Rae LaCoursiere Pippin, 80, of Thief River Falls, died on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
On January 15, 1942, Sherry was born at Thief River Falls to Harriett Liden Liggett. She attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1960. Following her graduation, Sherry was married to James “Jim” LaCoursiere at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Thief River Falls on August 27, 1960. To this union five children were born: Rob, Christie, Terry, Shannon and Kirk. She was a homemaker, caring for her children until 1979 when she began working out of the house. For the years following, she worked as a secretary, Paralegal, reporter and columnist for the Thief River Falls Times, and Deputy Recorder for Pennington County.
On July 7, 2007 Sherry was united in marriage to Carl Pippin at Black River Lutheran Church, rural St. Hilaire.
Sherry enjoyed many hobbies such as knitting and baking (especially many varieties of Christmas cookies), but she most enjoyed her quilting, which anyone would observe when they walked into her home. Her home also showed her love for her favorite season of Fall, and she always decorated her house to the nines for Christmas. She was a den mother to many boy scouts and she was active in Catholic Foresters and the St. Bernard’s community. She also cooked and cleaned for the priests at the rectory. She was the oldest cousin of the Liden Clan, from which the younger relatives sought advice and guidance.
Sherry loved animals of all kinds and allowed her children to have many, many pets during their childhood, ranging from snakes to very large dogs. However, her favorite pet was her beloved Jiggs.
Sherry is survived by her children, Rob (Lynn) LaCoursiere, Terry (Sherry) LaCoursiere, Shannon (Greg) Smidt, and Kirk (Miko Westerman) LaCoursiere; grandchildren, Ryan (Shannon) LaCoursiere and Jaime (Matt) Truscinski, Rodney (Sierra) Smidt and Abby Smidt, Lindsay LaCoursiere, Kylie LaCoursiere, Liam LaCoursiere, Sawyer LaCoursiere, Laadyn Westerman and Keric Hancock; great-grandson, Levi Kukowski; son-in-law, Brian Sauer; aunt, Betty Liden; and several cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Harriett; daughter, Christie Sauer; brother, Dale Liggett; many uncles and aunts and numerous other relatives.
