Thief River Falls – Clyde Sorenson, 71, of Thief River Falls, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND with his loving family by his side.
Clyde Steven Sorenson was born June 9, 1950 in Thief River Falls, the son of Omer Aldean and June Violet (Windahl) Sorenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking. Clyde attended Viking Elementary School and graduated from Newfolden High School with the class of 1968. He then attended Northland Junior College in Thief River Falls.
On June 26, 1971 Clyde was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Breiland at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. They settled on a farm in Kratka Township in 1977 where they raised their three wonderful children, Carla, Cami and Derek.
In addition to raising cattle, Clyde worked at Hartz Wholesale Foods in Thief River Falls for 30 years and for the remainder of his career was an insurance agent with Thune Insurance in Thief River Falls. He and Barb retired in 2016.
Throughout the years, Clyde and Barb enjoyed traveling together. They had numerous trips to Grand Cayman, Yuma, AZ, Europe, Costa Rica, along with many other places. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, softball, intermural basketball, golf and was very proud of his 100% Norwegian heritage.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and served on the Bethany Church Council. He was active with the Thief River Falls Lions Club and was involved in 4-H.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara of Thief River Falls; children, Carla (Troy) Schoenberg of Plymouth, Cami (Derek) Dahlstrom of Independence, and Derek (Heidi) Sorenson of Thief River Falls; 8 grandchildren, Austin, Carter, and Alexis Schoenberg, Mya, Sydney, and Peyton Dahlstrom, Paisley and Lola Sorenson; siblings, Gene (Sandy) Lindahl, Jerry (Lori) Sorenson, Jon (Kathy) Sorenson, Lana (Jim) Nelson, Jay Sorenson, Faye (Jim) Bauer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and many aunts, uncles and several cousins.
The service to celebrate Clyde’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery at a later time.
