Thief River Falls – Terry Dyrdal, of Thief River Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at his home at the age of 63.
Terry Lynn Dyrdal was born on September 7, 1958 in Thief River Falls, the son of Nels and Helen (Stigen) Dyrdal.  He was born, raised and made his home in Thief River Falls.  Terry graduated from Lincoln High School in 1977. He was baptized with his nephew Tony Dyrdal, February 1982.
Terry worked at Arctic Cat for 35 years.
Terry had a passion for fast, old cars, but would not miss the opportunity to check out the new fast ones as well. He enjoyed racing, particularly BIR Nationals in Brainerd and maybe a little by himself on the back roads of TRF. He was a dedicated Minnesota Vikings fan, enjoyed listening to old school Rock n’ Roll records, and once in a while you could catch him movin’ his tooshie. He enjoyed Sunday drives, with a habit of always taking the scenic route. Terry loved animals, and he would give them time and attention anytime he visited a house with one, but did have a particular love for Molly and tolerated Muffin.
Terry enjoyed many things in life but his greatest love was his family; his nieces and nephews brought him joy (and maybe a head shake or two as well) and he rarely missed a family celebration or achievement. His pride in them could easily be seen by the smile on his face, a hug or even tears, as he was a softy.
He was blessed to find his partner in crime, Shelley, and made a home with her that was open to all. He enjoyed racing around on his little moped and yardwork, but knew better than to mess with Shelley’s flowers, so he moved to tinkering in the garage, eventually creating his “man cave” which turned into anther area of welcome to all.
Terry is survived by his lifelong partner, Shelley Legg of Thief River Falls;   and her children, Jo (Doug) Williams of Thief River Falls, and Christy (Rob) Shirley of McKinney, TX; sister, Susie (Jim) Sonnenfeld of Winona; aunts, Doris Borgen of Washington and Louise McLean of Thief River Falls; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great great-nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roger Sr., and Lloyd; nephews, Roger Jr., Jamie, and Jason; great-niece, Marissa; great-nephew, Michael; and brother-in-law, Orville.
A Celebration of Life Gathering was held on Monday, April 18, 2022 at the Heritage Center in Thief River Falls.
