Thief River Falls – Melvine Dagg, 96, of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Her family was at her side.
Melvine Theodora was born April 2, 1926 in Ethelbert, Manitoba, Canada. She was the daughter of Theodore and Frances (Pawlowicz) Bodnar. She attended elementary school in Ethelbert and graduated from high school in Dauphin, Manitoba. Melvine received her BA in Home Economics from the University of Manitoba and worked for a time as a dietician at the Winnipeg General Hospital. In 1950 she married Dr. Earl Wallace Dagg. To this union, four children were born: Karen, John, Geoffrey, and James. The family lived for a time in Ellendale, ND and Salt Lake City, UT before settling in Thief River Falls in 1962.
Melvine volunteered for many years with the Cub Scouts, TRF hospital auxiliary, the Women Infants and Children (WIC) program, and Meals on Wheels. Her passion for fine art led to volunteering in the TRF elementary school art history presentation program. She was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Drama Club, and both TRF Golf and Curling Clubs. Melvine and Earl loved to travel and enjoyed over 25 years in their AZ winter home with many Thief River Falls friends living nearby. However, time at their beloved Lake of the Woods cabin, where they enjoyed fishing, boating, exploring, and berry picking with family and friends, was their greatest joy.
Melvine is survived by her children, Karen of Liberty Lake, WA, John (Mary Kay) of Dallas, TX, Geoff (Ruth) of Wenatchee, WA, Jim (Tamar) of Thief River Falls; niece, Lynne Klapecki of Bellingen, New South Wales, Australia; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents; sister, Elizabeth; and brother, William.
A private funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
Our family is grateful to the medical staff at Sanford for their tender and gentle care of dear mom.
Memorials may be sent to the Thief River Falls Education Foundation: the Dr. Earl and Melvine Dagg Endowment, or your charity of choice.
