Thief River Falls – Rose Marie Bergerson, of Thief River Falls, formerly of Two Harbors, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Karlstad Senior Living in Karlstad, at the age of 86.
Rose Marie (Palm) Bergerson was born October 2, 1935 in a little log cabin near Wannaska, the daughter of Andrew and Edna (Jesme) Palm.
She attended high school in Roseau. On January 19, 1954 she was united in marriage to Donald Bergerson in Wannaska. They had two girls, Sandra, and 3 years later, Teresa.
After marrying, they lived in Grand Forks and eventually moved to Silver Bay, where Don took a job at Reserve Mining Company. From 1956 to 1958 Don served in the Army, being stationed at Ft Lewis, WA. Rose Marie enjoyed these years being closer to her sister, who lived in Renton, WA. In 1958 they returned to the north shore, living in Castle Danger until 1967 when they purchased a home in Two Harbors. They lived there until Reserve Mining closed its doors in 1986.
Don and Rose Marie became caretakers of Center Island, WA, a job they enjoyed. In 1989 they returned to Silver Bay, for Don to return to work at Cyprus. He retired in 1995 and they took off on a journey ending up in Yuma, AZ where they purchased a home.
Rose Marie worked several jobs in sales that included Tupperware, Avon, and shoes. She also drove taxicab for several years. She organized and cooked for the Women of the Moose booth at the Lake County Fair. Everyone came for her cooking.
Rose Marie’s favorite pastimes were embroidery, visiting and having coffee, traveling and more traveling, dancing, and loving life.
Rose Marie was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8242, Two Harbors Minnesota Moose Lodge 1463 (serving in various positions including Senior Regent), and the American Legion Post 117 Auxillary. Rose Marie was a former member of Gloria De Cristo Church in Yuma and was presently a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and enjoyed singing in the church choir.
Rose Marie is survived by daughters, Sandra (Tim) Peterson of Thief River Falls, and Teresa Bergerson of Apple Valley; grandchildren, Eric (Mandi) Peterson, April Peterson, Kyle Minnick, Katie (Shawn) Fischer and Michael Taute; great-grandchildren, Logan and Soren Peterson, Nathaniel, Miles and Tanner Fischer; nieces and nephews, Margene (George) Hughes, Henry (Vanette), Virgil and Robert (Glorianne) Pettis, Lauren (Paul) Mache, Dawn (Russ) Duty, William Urbon, Glenn (Linda) Murry, Deb Stallings and Loretta Ebel; lifelong friend, Arlene Svir and family — Alan (Rene) Svir and their children, Bobby and Carrie, and Keith (Tammy) Svir and their son, Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Lillian, Leonard, Clarence and Oscar; and special friends, Darlene Nicholson and Ray Svir.
A Memorial Service in honor of Rose Marie will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Alex Amiot officiating.
Visitation will take place from 4–6 p.m., with a 6 p.m. Prayer Service on Friday, October 14, 2022 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday at the church.
