Thief River Falls – Marian Langevin Bessette, 89, of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.
Marian Bernice Hovet was born April 4, 1933 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of George and Evelyn (Anderson) Hovet. She was baptized and confirmed at Ekelund Lutheran Church near Goodridge. Marian attended country school and graduated from Goodridge High School with the class of 1950.
Following graduation, Marian moved to Thief River Falls to begin work at a grocery store. Here, she met her future husband, Leo Langevin. The couple were married on October 11, 1952 at St. Bernard’s rectory in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union five children were born, Larry, Lynae, Dale, Fern and Carol. In 1953 they purchased a farm in Sanders Township, Pennington County where they primarily raised turkeys along with other livestock and small grains.
After the kids were old enough to attend school, Marian worked at various places in Thief River Falls including 3rd Street Café, The Club, Arctic Cat, Rex Café and finished her career at Northwestern Hospital.
Leo passed away in 1977 and Marian moved into Thief River Falls. She was very proud the farm, which continued to stay in the Langevin family.
Marian enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, cooking lunch for her kids throughout the years, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
On July 3, 1992 Marian was united in marriage to Thomas Bessette Sr. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls by Father John Kleinwachter. They first lived in New London, WI and six years later settled in Clintonville, WI. Traveling was a big part of their life together. They were members of the St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville. Tom passed away October 29, 2007 and the following year, Marian returned to live in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include her children, Larry (Robin) Langevin, Lynae Englund, Dale (Jenny) Langevin, Fern Cartier and Carol (Rick) Horien; grandchildren, Shane, Carissa, Matthew, Miranda, Marcus, Jessica, Jamie, Michael, Ashley, Jacob, Christine, Danielle, Erica, Kyle; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ronald Hovet, Vernon (Carol) Hovet, Roger (Vera) Hovet, Curtiss (Sharon) Hovet; sister-in-law, JoAnne Hovet; Tom’s children, Diane, Tom Jr., Joy, Patti, Jeff, Doug, Robin, Julie, Tim and all of their families; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Leo and Tom; parents; siblings, Gordon (Shirley) Hovet, Arlene (Vern) Vad, Myrna (Art) Bessette, Duane Hovet; and sister-in-law, Ann Hovet.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, with Msgr. Timothy McGee presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
