East Grand Forks – Danny Jerome Johnson, 74, of East Grand Forks, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 after a five-year battle with cancer.
Danny was born April 10, 1948 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Norman and Juliet (Neste) Johnson. He grew up west of St. Hilaire, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, in 1966.
He entered the US Army in 1968 with the 4th Infantry Division and was stationed in Vietnam until 1970.
Danny married Bonnie Cameron on August 10, 1974 at Black River Lutheran Church near St. Hilaire.
He completed the welding program at Northwest Technical College and worked as a welder for American Crystal Sugar in East Grand Forks for 36 years.
Danny enjoyed spending time with his family and being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan, and was still hopeful for a Vikes Super Bowl win.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonnie; their children, Jeremy (Jamie), Jennifer, and Jesse (Ashley); siblings, Theodore “Ted”, Gary “Duke” (Sue), Richard “Rick” (Linda), Jaye, Lenny (Teresa), Judy (Terry) Nelson, LouAnn (David) Ellingson, Fay Johnson, and Tammy (Ray) Swick; sister-in-law, Kaye; grandchildren, Julian, Layton, Gavyn, Jaylen, Lochlan, and Killian; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Terry and Stanley; and sister-in-law, Marina.
