Carolyn Schmitz, 67

Fosston – Carolyn Schmitz of Fosston, formerly of Red Lake Falls, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
Carolyn Sue (Annie) Schmitz was born on March 15, 1955 in Red Lake Falls, the daughter of Francis and Evelyn Schmitz.
Carolyn graduated from Lafayette High School in 1973 and went on to earn her Cosmetology License. After working in Park Rapids, Carolyn opened her own salon, The Stylist I, in Thief River Falls. Eventually Carolyn decided to make a life change and returned to school and earned her Associates Degree in Electronics. After working as an electronics technician in East Grand Forks, Carolyn accepted a position in Fosston. She retired from her position as Department Head of Technology at Fosston school district in January 2020.
Carolyn loved her family, friends, and fur babies! She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fosston where she enjoyed volunteering in various capacities. Carolyn was generous, giving of her time through avid volunteer activities in every community in which she was a part. Through her work with the foreign exchange student program, she hosted a young woman Anastasiya Kiselyova who she came to think of as a daughter. Carolyn had a sense of adventure and enjoyed animals, nature, travel and was a prolific crafter.
Carolyn is survived by her chosen daughter Anastasiya Kiselyova of Malaysia, Her siblings Roger (LaVonne) Schmitz of Newfolden, Linda (David) Bergh of Hallock, MN, Vern Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, Douglas (Rebekah) Schmitz of Fargo, ND, Julia (Steve) Crump of Richardson, TX, Gene Schmitz of Red Lake Falls; and nieces and nephews Ryan, Rebecca, Robin, Roberta Schmitz, Emily and Christopher Moehring, Marsha, Aaron, Denise, Stacy, Owen and Ian Bergh, Lindsey, Renae, Chelsey and Dalen Schmitz and Lauren, Michelle and Steven Crump as well as many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Evelyn (Kirschman) Schmitz.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, with Father Bob Schreiner officiating and Deacon John Bruggeman. Burial was held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake Falls.
Memorials for Carolyn will be given to the Fosston Food Shelf in memory of Carolyn where she often volunteered.
