Red Lake Falls – Darrell Glass, of Red Lake Falls, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at his home, with his loving family by his side.
Darrell Vincent Glass was born to John and Myrtle Rustad Glass on January 27, 1925 at their home on the farm in Lake Pleasant Township near Red Lake Falls. He passed away on January 5, 2023 at the age of 97 years, 11 months, and 9 days on the same farm where he was born.
Darrell attended elementary school at the Lake Pleasant rural school, then graduated from high school in Red Lake Falls. He was a gifted storyteller and often entertained his children and grandchildren with stories from his school days and youth.
He married Evelyn Wangsnes on December 30, 1956 in Thief River Falls. Darrell spoke often of how happy and blessed he was with his life because of his relationship with his family.
Darrell was a man who loved the Lord and lived his faith daily. He was a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and through the years served in nearly every office in the church. Words are inadequate to describe this gentle, kind man.
He loved his work as a lifelong farmer. He began farming with horses and was quick to adopt new farming methods including the use of modern farm equipment. Darrell and his father had a large hay operation in the 1940s and 1950s. Darrell restored the stationery baler they used and taught all his children how to run his baler.
Being an active part of the local community and a good neighbor was important to him. He served his community as a member of the Lake Pleasant Town Board and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Darrell enjoyed traveling with his family and was able to visit all the lower 48 states, Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Europe. Darrell always told people he had been on his farm every month of his life. Trips were always planned so he could be home at least one day of the month.
Darrell is survived by his wife Evelyn, of 66 years; and three children, Peggy (Darin Kelstrom), Rodney (Dawn), and Judy; two grandchildren, Kyle (Lauren) and Tiffany (Ghislain Kamanyi); and three great-grandsons, Emmett Glass, Dax Kamanyi, and Jackson Kamanyi; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Virgil.
A private memorial service will be held in the spring.
