Karlstad – Dorothy Skoglund, 93, of Karlstad, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at her residence.
Dorothy May Hanson was born on April 22, 1929 to Fred and Esther (Christensen) Hanson on a farm near Lake Norden, SD. She attended Kirk County School and graduated from Lake Norden School in 1948.
Following high school Dorothy worked at a hardware store for several years to earn money for nursing school. She attended the Bartron School of Nursing in Watertown, SD, and after interning at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL, graduated as a Registered Nurse.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Kermit Skoglund on September 26, 1953 in Lake Norden, SD. They moved to Thief River Falls, where they raised their three children. Her husband Kermit passed in 1975.
Dorothy was very proud of her nursing education and becoming an RN. The care she gave to her patients was very important to her. Throughout her career she continued to wear her cap and dress until the day she retired after 40 years at Northwest Medical Center in 1997.
Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was always telling them that she loved them and was proud of them. Dorothy instilled in them that every day was “Kindness Day.” She always tried to stay active and would exercise and go for a walk every day.
