Menahga – Oneita Jeanne Quick, 91, of Menahga, formerly of Plummer, peacefully passed into eternity on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.
Oneita was born on March 19, 1931 in Becker County to Alben and Sybil (Johnson) Olson. She attended 8 years of country school across the road from their rural Menahga home. She graduated as the President of the class of 1949 from Menahga High School and Park Rapids Teacher’s Training, after which she taught in various country schools, including a shared teaching experience with her younger sister, Cora. Following that, several years were spent near Milaca, Bemidji, and Roseau enjoying “an hundredfold” homes. In response to a sister servant in the church becoming ill, Oneita cared for whatever need she had. In 1965, Oneita returned to Menahga to assist and care for her father and mother.
On May 29, 1968 Oneita was united in marriage to Russell Quick. They spent a year in Borup, before moving to the family Homestead Farm near Plummer, where they lived for 30 years. In 1998, they retired to Menahga to a house full of special memories. Oneita’s deep rooted faith and serving her Lord and Savior was an important part of her life. She was also known for her open arms and open home.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two children: Nona (late husband Art) Heubner of Menahga and Roy (Elizabeth) Quick of Plummer; five grandchildren: Brandon (Lisa), Andy, Sarah (Travis) Eckel, Daniel, and Abby; five great grandchildren: Brahdyn, Darrius, Breona, Gavyn, and Sequoia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Oneita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell of 49 years; sisters, Benora, Shirley, Arlene, Ethel and Cora; and as well as her brothers, Arnold, Ervin, Dale, Ansel and John.
A service will be held at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home, Menahga, at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, followed by a lunch at the Greenwood Connections (lower level).
