Surprise, AZ – John Lloyd Seaverson, 75, passed away on March 6, 2023 in Surprise, Arizona. May his memory be blessed.
John L. Seaverson was born March 11, 1947 in Thief River Falls, the son of Alice (Hagman) and Lloyd Seaverson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
John attended Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, graduating with the class of 1965.
He then graduated as a member of the first class of Northland Community College in 1967. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota with a bachelors degree double major in chemistry and biology in 1969, and then attended the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry from 1969 to 1973. After graduating from dental school, he returned to Thief River Falls and joined his family dentist, Dr. Herb Achenbach, in practice. He practiced dentistry over 38 years in Thief River Falls before retiring in 2011.
Dr. Seaverson was always interested in keeping well informed with modern dental techniques, attending many continuing education classes, and in 1986 became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
On September 14, 1968 he married Lorraine Lietzow (Lincoln High School class of 1964) at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, and to this union two sons were born, John Derek Seaverson and Marc Edward Seaverson. They raised their family in Thief River Falls and lived there until retirement.
John and Lorraine were blessed with three grandchildren, Jack, Cole and Ruby (“Princess”). They were certainly blessings in their lives and cherished by Nama and Grandpa.
Following retirement, John and Lorraine moved to the retirement community of
Sun City Grand in Surprise, Arizona during the winter months, and spent the summer months in Spring Park.
Dr. Seaverson was involved in the community and was a member of the TRF Jaycees and Lions Club for 35 years. He also served on various boards including Jobs, Inc., Norwest Bank, TRF Amateur Hockey Association, TRF Golf Club, Northwest District Dental Board and Trinity Church Council.
John’s passion for hockey started in his early school years, continued with his coaching at the Squirt level, and watching and helping with his sons and grandsons
in their hockey years. He attended hockey games and followed teams at many levels throughout the years. During his high school years, he spent a fair amount of leisure time shooting pool and snooker down at the TRF Pool Hall with longtime friends, Marc, Dave and Larry.
John enjoyed hunting with family and friends in Minnesota and South Dakota. His hunting interest was shown in the many wildlife prints he displayed in his dental office. John had a variety of interests throughout his life, which included Country Western music, cowboy boots, hats and belt buckles, owning big Cadillac cars and his little red Corvette.
John is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children, John Derek (Kari) Seaverson of Chaska, and Marc Edward (Erin) Seaverson of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Jack, Cole, and Ruby Seaverson; siblings, Bev Pawloski of Thief River Falls, Ruby Jenson of Thief River Falls, and Roy (Julie) Seaverson of Surprise, AZ; sister-in-law, Marian Ellingson of Vancouver, B.C., Canada; brothers-in-law, Ron Pilcher of Thief River Falls, Ed Lietzow of LaCrosse, WI, Ron (Marlys) Lietzow of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Lloyd Seaverson; parents-in-law, Clara and Walter Lietzow; sister, Carole Pilcher; sisters-in-law, Clare Thompson; Sharon Lietzow; brothers-in-law, Ray Pawloski, Jerry Jenson, Erling Thompson nieces, Kelly Ann Lietzow, Rhonda Pilcher, Linda Flatland.
A Celebration of Life service and reception will be held at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10 a.m. All family and friends are welcome.
