Middle River – Rose Jesme, 82, of Middle River, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND with her loving family by her side.
Rose Marie Tapa was born June 10, 1940 in Reine Township, Roseau County, the daughter of John and Wilruth Anna (Knutson) Tapa and raised on a farm near Wannaska. She was baptized on December 7, 1940 and confirmed May 12, 1957 at Bethesda Lutheran Free Church. Rose attended country school and graduated from Roseau High School. Following high school, Rose moved to the Twin Cities where she worked for a short time.
Rose was united in marriage to William Jesme and the couple settled on a farm near Middle River. To this union four children were born, Lila, Elroy, Edward and Matthew. On their active farm, the family raised small grains, hay, alfalfa, beef cattle, dairy cattle, chickens, sheep, and pigs.
Rose loved being home with her children as they were growing. She enjoyed life on the farm, tending to her large garden and canning its produce. Everything that Rose made was home grown and homemade. She dabbled in many hobbies including sewing quilts, knitting, crochet and embroidery.
For many years, the family spent time at their cabin at Rocky Point where they enjoyed fishing and family time.
Rose worked for many years at Marvin Windows, where she retired from. She also worked at Meadowbrook Ballroom and was a waitress/cook at the Chuck Wagon in Middle River.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Thief Lake where she was active in Ladies Aid and other church activities.
Survivors include her loving children, Lila (Jay) Mathieu of Thief River Falls, Elroy (Tami) Jesme of International Falls, Edward Jesme of Middle River and Matthew Jesme of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, CharLee Mathieu, Guthrey (Abby Thorpe) Mathieu, Merle Jesme, Marty (fiancée Emily Knaeble) Jesme, Eddie Jesme, Amanda (Justin) Halvorson, Kassondra (Jim) Henry, Brody (Lexi) Jesme, Marisa (Elijah) Forshee, Brenden (Bella Russillo) Jesme; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Jack Tapa, Ruth Meyer, Janice (Delray) Larson; brother-in-law, Kenny Brateng; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by the father of her children, William Jesme; Matt’s fiancée, Devon Richter; brother, Robert Tapa; sister, Joann Brateng; grandson-in-law, Lars Sundberg; sister-in-law, Frances Tapa; brother-in-law, Stanley Meyer.
A gathering time for family and friends will be from
4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a
5 p.m. Prayer Service on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Bethesda Cemetery, Wannaska.
