Grygla – Carter Bryce Torgerson, 67, of Grygla, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023, at McIntosh Senior Living with his loving family at his side. Throughout sixteen years of a grueling regimen of cancer treatments and frequent periods of intense pain, Carter maintained a positive attitude, and never complained.
Carter was born January 1, 1956, the son of Tellef and Violet Torgerson.
Carter worked in the shipping department of Arctic Cat for 12 years, then for 32 years as the “do-it-all” maintenance supervisor for the City of Grygla where he worked tirelessly to keep Grygla’s grounds and equipment meticulously neat and clean. He also served on the Grygla Fire and Rescue team for those same 32 years. Carter operated his own trucking company for a number of years, hauling freight for Machinewell and May Corporation. Later in his career, he enjoyed running the car wash at Petro Pumper for Pat and Nancy, making many friends along the way and treasuring time spent with Evan and AJ. He also worked for a time for Greg at Homme Feedlot Services. As if that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, Carter washed and detailed cars, trucks, tractors, and combines in his “spare time,” whatever that is.
On October 15, 1977, Carter married his best friend, and the love of his life, Linda Dunrud. To this union, their son Bryce was born in 1979, and daughter Alicia was born in 1982. Carter wasn’t one to sit around, he always had to be doing something, but in spite of being one of the busiest men in Northern Minnesota, Carter’s life was centered around his family, and they always came first. He and Linda were always side by side, and his kids and grandkids were his pride and joy. Carter cherished time with family, especially at their lake cabin at Springsteel Resort, at the hunting shack with Bryce and friends, as well as grouse hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, motorcycling, horseback riding, and many adventures with Dawson and Ava, his beloved grandchildren.
Carter is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 45 years; son, Bryce of Clearbrook; daughter, Alicia (Kevin) Erickson of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Dawson and Ava Erickson; siblings, Delores (Doug) Nomeland, Lillian (Harvey) Lund, both of Thief River Falls, Opal (Curt) Bottem, Douglas (Linda) Torgerson, and Scotty Torgerson, all of Grygla; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Those who preceded Carter and await his arrival in Heaven include his mom and dad, Violet and Tellef Torgerson; step-dad, Ed Olufson; sister-in-law, Sharon Torgerson; brother-in-law, Duane Dunrud; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Services, Thief River Falls.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., with a Visitation from 10–11 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla.
