Thief River Falls – Janice Sheridan, 85, of Thief River Falls, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND with her loving family by her side.
Janice Maomi Teigland was born September 12, 1937 the daughter of Allan Herbert and Marjorie Alice (Stephenson) Teigland on the family farm in rural Grygla. She attended the Benville School near Grygla.
Following school, Janice worked as a nanny for the Pastor Rasmussen Family in Grygla. Janice honed her homemaking skills at this time and also learned to play the piano and mandolin from Mrs. Rasmussen.
At a church street meeting in Goodridge, Janice met the love of her life, David Sheridan. On October 27, 1956 the couple were married at the Grygla Gospel Tabernacle. They made their home 11 miles east of Thief River Falls on the Sheridan Family Farm. On July 4, 1960 they bought a small home in Thief River Falls and later that year, built an addition. To this union five children were born: RaeLynn, Renae, Timothy, Tammy and Scott.
She worked for Fuller Brush for a short time, for Tony’s Pizza Factory in Minneapolis, later volunteered to work at the Community Church School to provide for her grandson’s tuition and also did some daycare.
Her purpose in life was to live a Godly life. She did that selflessly by doing anything she could for everyone. Janice was a member of the Grygla Gospel Tabernacle for over 20 years and then a member of the Assembly of God in Thief River Falls.
For many years, Janice loved to volunteer by leading Bible Study and music at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls. She also loved cleaning and volunteering at the Assembly of God Church. Janice started teaching Sunday School class when she was 16 years old and she continued for many, many years.
Janice felt the need to feed any family and friends that ever came to the house. Her grandson said, “You can’t leave Grandma’s house without eating!” She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, potato dumplings, fork made milkshakes and caramel rolls! Her favorite color was purple. In the last month, when she and David would go to bed at night, Janice would sing and pray in the spirit.
