– Charmaine LaHome Lorenson was born in Poplar Grove Township, Roseau County on April 2, 1930 to Leonard and Christine (Dallum) Modahl. She attended country school and graduated from Badger High School in 1948. Charmaine was married to Eldor Lorenson on June 30, 1948 at her parents’ farm in Benwood. They made their home on a farm in Huss township where they raised turkeys. Charmaine was a very hard worker and the glue that held her family together.
She was a wonderful cook and baker, teaching the staff at Paradise Café in Strathcona how to make potato dumplings. Her neighbors and family were important to her, and her home was always open to visitors that traveled to the farm.
Charmaine’s church family at Grace Evangelical was very important to her and she held several offices in the Ladies Aide. After her son Don passed away in 1985 she found healing in volunteer work at the Greenbush Public Library where she went on to be an employee, serving a total of 25 years. Charmaine was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Charmaine is survived by her sons, Duane (Colleen) of Greenbush and Dennis (Roberta) of Middle River; brothers, Lew (RoseMary) Modahl and Terry (Ida) Modahl; grandchildren, Pat (Alicia) Lorenson, Elle (Darren) Grothaus, Noah (Jenna) Lorenson, Tracy (Chris) Lorenson, Travis (Brooke) Lorenson, Trent (Jodi) Lorenson and Trevor (Laura) Lorenson; great- grandchildren, Maria (Luke), Joe, Lily, Loren, Leo, Emily, Haley, Lindsey, Jake (Dixie), Brandi (Alex), Paige (Austin), Hope (Grant), Killian, Ashlyn, Cassie, Anna and Bently; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eldor; son, Don; brother, Jon Modahl; sister, Renee Olberg; granddaughter, Bess Lorenson; her parents; and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life for Charmaine L. Lorenson will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Church in Strathcona. Visitation will be held Monday, July 17, 2023 from 5–7 p.m. at Grace Evangelical. Interment will take place at Lorenson Cemetery.
