McIntosh – Lyle Ole Austad, 78, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Poplar Meadows Senior Living, McIntosh.
On December 5, 1944 Lyle was born to Ole and Ione (Weberg) Austad in Thief River Falls. He was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, rural Oklee. He attended school in Oklee, graduating in 1962. Lyle attended vocational school at Thief River Falls to learn to be a carpenter. He worked as a carpenter with his brother, Russ in the Minneapolis area. Later, he and Russ started their business, Austad Brothers Carpentry, in the Oklee-Trail area.
In 1965 Lyle was united in marriage to Joyce Boman, and they were blessed with four children, Troy, Rory, Kellie, and Kari. Lyle and Russ continued to grow their business. In the 1970s, Lyle worked in Arizona building homes. On March 28, 1981 Lyle was united in marriage to Vicki Johnsrud at Ekelund Lutheran Church in Goodridge. To this union, their daughter, Carissa was born. In about 2010 Lyle retired from full-time carpentry.
Lyle was an easy-going guy who enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Making birdhouses, especially Martin Bird Houses and feeders, was a wonderful pastime that made a little income. He always had a dog to have as a companion. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and he especially enjoyed giving his family nicknames. His mother gave him a nickname, “Tup”, when he was younger, and as he aged, it became “Pops”.
Lyle is survived by his children, Troy (Nanette), Oklee; Kellie Austad, Fort Worth, TX; Kari Wilde, Houston, TX; and Carissa (Mike) Affeldt, Fosston; grandchildren, Joshua, Izac, Jesika, Hannah Joy, Rachel, Katie, Michael, Ashlie, Brandon, Luke, Hailey, Addison, and Lucas; great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Logan, David, Nina, Isabella, and Nathan; siblings, Judy (Gary) Bartz, Coon Rapids and Jeannie Hoiby, Isanti; several cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki; son, Rory; parents, Ole and Ione; brothers, Russ and Gary, and nephew, Jonathan Austad.
Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Service, Oklee, followed by a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, rural Oklee.
Burial was at Sand Valley Cemetery, Trail, followed by a lunch.
