Staples – Janice “Jan” Klopp, 79, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2020 at Lakewood Health Nursing Home in Staples.
Janice Marie Anderson was born to the late John and Marie Anderson, June 12, 1941, in Thief River Falls. Jan graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959 and received a BA in Music from the University of North Dakota in 1963. She was married to Robert Azure, to which a son, John Michael, was born. She later married Donald Klopp, to which Dan Jay and Dawn Marie were born.
Jan taught music at Viking and Newfolden Elementary Schools as well as private music lessons for 35 years. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for her entire life where she sang in the choir, directed the youth choir and was a member of the quilt guild. She played the bassoon in the Northland Community Band and the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra for over 40 years.
Jan was passionate about music and it came through in her teaching. Her students knew her best for her love of all things, Beethoven. She was colorful, fun and had a youthful sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, playing Bridge, watching movies, listening to symphonies and spending time with family and friends and her beloved felines.
Jan is survived by her three children: John (Missy) Azure of Thief River Falls, Dan Jay Klopp of Thief River Falls and Dawn (fiancé Mick) Klopp of Bathurst, Australia. She is also survived by two grandchildren, John Michael Azure (Arianne) of Grand Forks, ND and Avery Azure (Casey) of Duluth; and two great-granddaughters, Eleanore and Magnolia Azure.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie; her brother, John Michael Anderson; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The services to celebrate Jan’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls will follow a time of lunch and fellowship.
