Thief River Falls – John D. Hesse, 83, of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, with his loving wife at his side.
John Delbert Hesse was born March 2, 1940 in Thief River Falls, to Clarence Lambert and Bertha (Schaack) Hesse. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. John attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School with the class of 1958.
John entered into service with the United States Navy on June 20, 1958. He was stationed on an aircraft carrier which took him all around the world. He was also stationed for a time at Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica. John earned the rank of AT2 (Aviation Electronics Technician). He was Honorably Discharged on June 19, 1962.
Following military duty, John worked many different places, primarily at Control Data (Honeywell) in Minneapolis. He made his home in Circle Pines.
In the mid-1980s, John met the love of his life, Priscilla Ann Holland. John felt very blessed to be husband to Priscilla and dad to her four children, Victor, Donna, Robin and Charleen. In March of 1995, John and Priscilla were united in marriage and shortly thereafter made their home in Thief River Falls.
John loved tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. He also enjoyed fishing, collecting, attending auction and thrift sales, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla “Pat” of Thief River Falls; children, Victor Flodeen, Donna (Jeff) Dekan, Robin (Scott) Eccles and Charleen Lynn; grandchildren, Kory, Gloria, Nicole, Steven, Alisha, Drew, Brittany and Kyle; many great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Connie) Hesse; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Rozanne (Andy) Holen, Dwayne (Dorothy) Hesse, Joanne (Ed) Quam, Vincent (Gloria) Hesse, and Joe (Betty) Hesse.
The service to honor John’s life will be held at 3 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service, on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating.
Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
