Thief River Falls – Janet Berg, 86 of Thief River Falls passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Thief River Care Center with her loving family by her side.
Janet Adele Klefstad was born March 28, 1937 in Thief River Falls the daughter of Christ and Lilas (Olson) Klefstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Janet attended elementary school in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1955.
Following high school, Janet moved to Minneapolis, where she did office work.
On April 6, 1957, Janet was united in marriage to the love of her life, Raymond Edward Berg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Janet continued to reside in Thief River Falls while Ray fulfilled his commitment to the United States Navy. He was Honorably Discharged in 1958 when the couple made their home in Minneapolis. To this union three lovely daughters were born: Pamela, Karen and Sandra. Janet felt very blessed to be home with her daughters as they were growing.
In 1967, the family returned to rural Thief River Falls where they settled on a farm which they had purchased two years earlier, in Helgeland Township, Polk County. On their farm they raised small grains and sunflowers. They lived on the farm for 46 years and in 2013 the couple made their home in Thief River Falls where they have continued to reside.
Janet enjoyed baking, cooking, making wedding cakes, gardening, quilting, keeping the house and loved visiting with family and friends. She was an avid letter writer and stayed in touch with folks near and far. Following Ray’s retirement for eleven years, the couple wintered in both Arizona and Florida.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Viking, and active in Ladies Aid. Janet belonged to the Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary and NARFE Auxiliary (National Active and Retired Federal Employees), where she held various local and state offices, including State Secretary.
Survivors include her loving husband, Raymond of Thief River Falls; daughters, Pamela (Steve) Boe of Eastern Oregon, Karen (Ron) Seaworth of Red Lake Falls and Sandy (Brian) Edlund of South Range, WI; grandchildren, Emily (Travis) Moody, Tylor Boe, Brandon (Stephanie) Edlund, Seth Seaworth and Cameron Seaworth; great-grandchildren, Quinn & Nolan Moody and Isla & Beau Edlund; niece, Martha Holmberg of South Dakota; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Christ Kenneth “Kenny” Klefstad.
The service to celebrate Janet’s life was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023 with visitation at noon, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Burial followed the luncheon at Viking Cemetery, Viking.
