Thief River Falls – DeLores “Joyce” Piché, age 100, passed away on November 22, 2023 at the Thief River Falls Care Center, Thief River Falls.
DeLores Joyce Kenmir was born on May 3,1923 to Louis Walter and Matilda “Tillie” Adelaide (Erickson) Kenmir in Grand Forks, ND. The eldest of 3 children, she grew up on the family farm 12 miles west of Grand Forks and attended Emerado Public School.
On September 15, 1940, Joyce married Charles Barkie. They had one daughter, Bonnie, and resided in Grand Forks, ND.
On June 11, 1976, she married George Piché. They had one son, Gregory, and one daughter, Elaine, and resided on the farm in Red Lake Falls.
Joyce enjoyed living in the country, staying busy with household chores, cooking, baking and taking lunches and dinners to the field. They loved going to dances and especially a waltz and a good polka. Many trips to Detroit Lakes included a picnic lunch. Joyce enjoyed going to WeFest to listen to country music. Her favorites were George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Jimmy Buffett. She always liked her coffee hot along with a sweet treat!
In later years, Joyce resided in Thief River Falls and moved to the Thief River Falls Care Center in September of 2021.
Joyce is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Gustafson, Grand Forks, ND and Elaine Peterson, Silverdale, WA; daughter-in-law, Sharon Piché, Thief River Falls; granddaughters, Sherri (Ted) Pokrzywinski, Gallatin, TN, Julie (Nathan) Spiekermeier, Sheldon, ND; grandsons, Eric (Alexandra) Accornero, Seattle, WA, Cory (Amber) Peterson, Silverdale, WA, Danny (Natasha) Piché, Alexandria, Paul Piché, Thief River Falls; great-granddaughters, Michelle (Brett) Elzy, Gallatin, TN, Lexi Piché, Alexandria; great-grandsons, Kyle (Emily) Pokrzywinski, Hendersonville, TN, Brock, Bryce, and Braxtin Piché, Alexandria; great-great-granddaughter, Kayla Flowers, Gallatin, TN; step great-great-grandchildren, Carson and Catherine Elzy, Gallatin, TN; stepsons, Dennis (Deb) Piché and Roger (Patty) Piché, Red Lake Falls, Wayne (Lisa) Piché, Grand Forks, ND; and several step great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Gregory Piché; brothers, Elden and Robert Kenmir; granddaughter-in-law, Kelsey (Holtan) Piché; and stepson, Ben Piché. Joyce will be dearly missed by all.
Funeral Service is at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut Street, Grand Forks, ND, with a Visitation one hour prior. Service will be livestreamed on Joyce’s obituary page at www.dandahlfuneralhome.com.
Interment at Memorial Park South in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
