Nashwauk – Eloise A. Halvorson, age 90, died Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Guardian Angels Nursing Home in Hibbing.
Eloise Adeline (Heden) Halvorson was born on March 29, 1933. She is the daughter of Ernest and Rhoday (Thompson) Heden. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She attended country grade school in Highlanding, and graduated from Goodridge High School.
On June 19, 1953, Eloise married Percy Halvorson in Goodridge. She was an active member of Goodridge and Ekelund Lutheran churches, teaching Sunday school and participating in the Ladies Aide. Eloise and Percy resided in the Goodridge area until 1989, when they relocated to Nashwauk.
Eloise worked 12 years as a volunteer at Forget-Me-Not Foundation, one year at Pengilly making Christmas wreathes, and one year picking strawberries at Nordic Ridge.
Eloise was a member of United Methodist Church in Nashwauk, as well as United Methodist Women.
Eloise will be remembered for her kind nature, strong work ethic, stubbornness, and sense of humor. She was known for her witty one-liners and her exceptional lefse and bread-making skills. Above all, Eloise had a deep and unwavering love for her family.
She had a deep affection for nature, finding solace and joy in the great outdoors. The sight of wildlife, the melodious songs of birds, and the graceful presence of deer brought her immense happiness.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Richard Patras; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jo Derryberry; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Eloise is preceded in death by her husband, Percy; son, James; two sisters; four brothers; several nieces and nephews; and her little dog, Max.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery at a later date.
Eloise is truly hoping there is lutefisk in Heaven!
