Middle River – Phil Kvalvog, of Middle River, formerly of Wanamingo/ Cannon Falls, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at home, at the age of 87.
Phil Roger Kvalvog was born on October 14, 1936 in Wanamingo, the son of Oscar and Ruth (Strand) Kvalvog. He grew up on the family dairy farm, and attended school in Wanamingo, graduating in 1954.
In 1959 he was married to Lola Haak and started his career in trucking in South St. Paul, while living in Cannon Falls and raising his three sons – Larry, Ray, and Rodney.
In 1976 Phil and Lola moved to Middle River, to embark on a career in farming. While doing that he continued to further his passion in trucking. In addition, Phil began and continued raising livestock, mostly beef cattle.
Phil enjoyed viewing and collecting antique cars and tractors and reveling in his love for pets, which included his favorite dog, Honey Girl and favorite cow, Blacky!
Phil is survived by his wife, Lola Kvalvog of Middle River; sons, Larry (Elizabeth) Kvalvog of Cedar Springs, MI, Raymond (Kathie) Kvalvog of Moorhead, and Rodney (Tammy) Kvalvog of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Brooks Zachary Connor, and Colby Eugene; nieces, Carolyn Swanson of Crystal, Susan Wendt of Owatonna, and Julie Luhman of Zumbrota; and double first cousin, Earl’s son, Brent Strand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ruth; infant son, Philip; grandsons, Zachary and Connor Kvalvog; grandparents, Olaf and Emma Kvalvog and Erick and Mary Strand; and sister, Evelyn (Kvalvog) Benrud.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Tom Johnston officiating.
Visitation took place one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Service.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the Minneola Cemetery, 13638 County 50 Blvd., Goodhue, (in Hader).
