Thief River Falls – Ordell Solberg, 93, of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, surrounded by her loving family.
Ordell Marion Stenvik was born June 22,1930 to Harold and Anne (Rindahl) Stenvik at home in Hickory Township. She was baptized into the Christian faith on July 13, 1930 in the Little Oak School, which was used for Church services at the time. She was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Duluth. She attended grade school in Eastern Pennington County, 7th and 8th grade in Duluth, where they lived for a time during World War II. Her family then moved to Thief River Falls where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. She attended teachers training and taught school in District #59 in Eastern Pennington County.
On July 1, 1950, she was united in marriage to Chester R. Solberg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. They made their home on the Solberg farm in Goodridge. To their union four boys were born: David, Bruce, Brian (twins) and Paul. They attended Ekelund Lutheran Church in rural Goodridge where their boys were all baptized and confirmed.
Ordell taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Weekday School. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, music, fishing, camping, and going to Arizona in the winter in her and Chester’s later years. She especially enjoyed visiting with neighbors, friends and their families.
She is survived by her children, Bruce (Diane) and Paul (Sue); grandchildren, Joyce (Greg) Geving, Kristian (Kassie) Solberg, Jared Solberg, Emilie (Jason) Thoennes, Holly (Brian) Binger, Katie (Nick) Ables, Nick (Emily) Solberg and Joe (Brook) Solberg; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Raymond, Gunnar, Arden Geving, Chase Kalt, Brooklyn, Paisley Solberg, Caden, Grayson and Charlotte Binger, Norah and Hattie Ables, Lena and Macy Solberg and Jackson and Declan Solberg; and many nieces and nephews.
Ordell was proceeded in death by her husband, Chester; her parents, Harold and Anne Stenvik; in-laws, Hans and Lena Solberg; sons, David, Brian and his wife Monna; sisters and brother-in-laws, Joan and Virgil Sunsdahl , Mavis and Carol Clausen, Beverly and Duran Kirschman and Yvonne Hedlund; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Edythe Solberg; and infant twin brother.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Ekelund Lutheran Church general fund.
The funeral service to celebrate Ordell’s life was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Ekelund Lutheran Church near Goodridge, with Reverend Kris Snyder and Pastor Dawn Hanson officiating. Burial was held at Ekelund Church Cemetery.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Ekelund Lutheran Church.
